Our Mission Statement
Ngā Toi Hawke’s Bay represents the artistic and cultural communities in Hawke’s Bay. Ngati Kahungunu iwi and hapu are central to our work.
Ngā Toi Hawke’s Bay is the advocate for the role and value of the arts and culture in the life of the people of Hawke’s Bay. Arts and culture help build stronger communities, contribute to the regional economy, enabling better economic and social outcomes for the region.
Ngā Toi Hawke’s Bay encourages and supports artistic endeavour and effort.
Ngā Toi Hawke’s Bay works with artists, the creative sector, cultural institutions, local government and business in its advocacy role to increase public knowledge of the sector.
Ngā Toi Hawke’s Bay encourages financial support for the arts, through its work with local and national bodies, other agencies and individuals.
Ngā Toi Hawke’s Bay increases public awareness of arts and culture through its commutations programme.
Our Strategic Plan 2017 - 2020
Ngā Toi Hawkes Bay will position itself as the prominent advocate for the arts and culture in Hawke’s Bay.
To achieve that outcome, Ngā Toi Hawkes Bay will:
Advise local territorial authorities in Hawke’s Bay of its role in advocating for arts and culture, and work with them to achieve better outcomes for the sector.
Develop close relationships with national and regional bodies to further the organisation’s aims.
Work with other bodies and business, both nationally and regionally, to advance the arts and culture sector in Hawke’s Bay.
Consult with people and institutions active in the local arts scene to ensure that their views are taken into account in the formation of Ngā Toi Hawkes Bay policy and presentations.
Arrange at least one public hui per year for consultation with a wide group of stakeholders.
Prepare each year a programme for its advocacy activities so that these can be communicated to all stakeholders and promoted through the media and other channels to strengthen the sector in Hawke’s Bay.
Develop a register of organisations, institutions, groups, and individuals who are active in, or support, the arts and cultural life in Hawke’s Bay to Ngā Toi Hawkes Bay’s work.
Appoint a board of people, knowledgeable about the arts, willing to commit their voluntary time to Ngā Toi Hawkes Bay’s work.
Adopt an up-to-date, fit-for-purpose trust deed governing its activities.
Ensure that its charitable status is clear with the Charities Commission.
Ensure that it’s tax status with IRD is up-to-date, and that any tax obligations are met.
Seek ongoing legal and accounting advice, as required, to meet its obligations, such advice to be offered pro bono by reputable suppliers.
